Aging In Place Home Evaluation

Most Seniors say they want to remain in their homes as long as possible, but few plan to make it a real option. Don’t wait until an accident or emergency makes you act in haste with poorly executed modifications that may actually decrease the value of your home.

Certified Aging in Place Specialist Colin Healy (CAPS) visits your client’s home and recommends modifications to fit their present & future accessibility needs.

I use the checklist based on one developed by the National Association of Homebuilders to evaluate home safety and identify modifications needed for safety and accessibility needs. I have added additional items based on my experience with clients and family members..

The checklist and a summary of any special needs are reviewed during the visit and a copy is sent after the meeting.

Simple tasks like widening doorways and adding grab bars require little follow up and I can provide names of contractors to select to perform the work.

More complex needs like moving the laundry out of the basement or creating a first floor bedroom with an accessible bath require design and are handled through a design agreement for additional services.

For homeowners, your family will get an understanding of how to overcome the growing challenges you are encountering in the home you love.

Fore caregivers, your client will get the assurance that their safety is being considered in the care services being provided and they are less likely to fall or be injured while under your care. This is especially important when releasing a patient from rehabilitation where a fall is the most common cause for readmission.
